I ate them anyway, as we are all aware that “Ready Salted can’t be faulted” but I cannot deny I was disappointed.
However,...

While I’m on a typography tip, here’s a great interview with Michael Bierut that I’ve been meaning to post for aaaages.
I think it serves as a pretty good introduction to this whole typography THANG. If you want something a bit more in depth, then go see Helveltica, STAT!

Spaceman Africa Is the 2008 Name of the Year... →
I didn’t vote in the final, in the end. I could not extricate myself from the dilemma of having to vote either for a dick joke (puerile), or a name which had been changed by deed poll (seems like cheating, somehow).
Still, Spaceman Africa is the Name of the Year. It is indeed a pretty wonderful name, howsoever it was obtained.

I made a tube journey on Monday evening, and had my first encounter this year with one of those familiar adverts for Rapid Heatbusters.
For as long as I can remember, the Heatbusters, a supplier of portable air conditioners, have used the same pulp aesthetic in their adverts on the tube. A comic strip depicts a flushed secretary calling on a man in a greatcoat and trilby to save the office from...

3D Photography (without glasses) →
Jim Gasperini has discovered that it is possible to make stereoscopic images appear in 3D by making a two frame animation out of the left and right images. The results are surprisingly effective.
This is my probably my favourite of the examples on his page:
Interestingly, it seems the 3D effect is also visible to people who have lost sight in one eye, which can apparently be a powerful...
