Spinny Lady →
I have to say, Gizmodo absolutely nails it with their caption to this wonderful video. A purer expression of the joy of human existence you will not find on the internet.
Except possibly for the video I’m about to post next…

The MegaPenny Project →
It seems Alan Taylor, creator of The Big Picture mentioned below, only deals in cool stuff.
Another of his creations, The MegaPenny Project, is the site to consult if you have ever had any trouble visualising the really big numbers that you find floating around in everyday discourse these days. What does a billion (U.S.) pennies look like? Now you can find out!
(Sensible Units is another cool...

Legal Tender
nostrich:
I learned something interesting about British coinage today. £5, £2, and £1 coins are legal tender for any amount. 50p, 25p (yeah, I’ve never seen one either), and 20p coins are only legal tender for amounts up to £10. 10p and 5p coins are only legal tender up to £5. And, the biggest surprise to me: 2p and 1p coins are only legal tender for amounts not exceeding 20p. (All notes are...
The Beeb Keeping Up With Modern Trends
Watching the Queen arrive at Ascot this lunchtime, the two BBC commentators went off on a digression about top hats. The older, male voice pointed out that top hats, when they were first popularised in the UK (by Prince Albert!), were multicoloured, and the standardising on boring old black was a much later development.
“So would you approve if we were to see people wearing top hats in...

08xx number changes - T-Mobile →
Wonderful bit of doublespeak from T-Mobile. Previously, all calls to numbers starting in ‘08’ would be charged at 10p per minute. From the 28th July, they will cost 5p, 12p, 20p, 30p, or 40p per minute.
Why have T-Mobile done this?
“To make things clearer for our customers”.
Incredible HULK Provocations →
Hilarious and comprehensive list of the reasons that Dr. David Banner was angered enough to turn into the Incredible Hulk.
My favourite:
43 Attempting to turn off the boiling hot water for the waxmaker,
only to have the faucet break off in his hand and scald him, and then
inexplicably slipping and rolling around in same boiling hot water

Lessons from My Father: The Outlaw →
By Juan F. Thompson
(via Daring Fireball)
For a long time, the only Hunter S. Thompson I had read was a few of his articles for the ESPN website which, frankly, I could make neither head nor tail of. So I never really got what all the fuss was about.
Then I read the Song of the Sausage, and the scales fell from my eyes.
Prophetic Justice →
“The United States is now prosecuting suspected terrorists on the basis of their intentions, not just their actions. But in the case of Islamic extremists, how can American jurors fairly weigh words and beliefs when Muslims themselves can’t agree on what they mean?”
There is no way I can eat all of this chard.

Humphrey Lyttelton RIP →
I’ve been paying scant attention to the news for the past couple of months, and so the death of Humphrey Lyttelton back in April comes as a complete surprise to me.
The crossover between my parents’ taste and my own is fairly slim when it comes to entertainment and culture, but I have very fond memories of listening to I’m Sorry I Haven’t a Clue with them in the car, or...
