I made a tube journey on Monday evening, and had my first encounter this year with one of those familiar adverts for Rapid Heatbusters.
For as long as I can remember, the Heatbusters, a supplier of portable air conditioners, have used the same pulp aesthetic in their adverts on the tube. A comic strip depicts a flushed secretary calling on a man in a greatcoat and trilby to save the office from the terrors of overheating.
The tube is, of course, the ideal place for such advertisements, as, due to its lack of air conditioning or even adequate ventilation, it is typically unpleasantly hot and smelly in the summer.
It struck me for the first time on Monday, however, that, not being in the office administration game myself, I have never once thought about the company when not idly scanning the ads on a tube train, and, indeed, in the winter, I entirely forget the company and its distinctive, long-running ad campaign exists.
As such, this sighting heralds the coming of summer! Hooray!
