why I’ll never leave NYC: #2849

zoya:

there was one of those weird shouting guys on my train, but it so happened that he was ranting about Brooklyn trivia (namely, that Empire Blvd was called Malbone Street until the worst subway accident in NYC history). so I pushed my way through the packed car to stand next to him and we talked about street names. mostly, about the alphabetical name scheme — how Ditmas is really Avenue D, there’s an Avenue C for about 9 blocks in Kensington, and Quentin Road used to be Avenue Q. which was awesome, because no one but the subway crazies lets me talk about this shit. (and he corrected me: Bedford, not Flatbush, is the longest street in Brooklyn)

I don’t often talk to the crazies in London, but when I have, it has never been this enlightening.
